Cyclist, 51, dies during 100-mile charity ride
A cyclist has died while taking part in a 100-mile (160km) annual charity ride.
Organisers said a 51-year-old man suffered a suspected cardiac arrest while taking part in the Carten100 ride between Cardiff and Tenby, Pembrokeshire, on Saturday.
The Met Office reported that it was the hottest day of the year so far, with 25.1C recorded in Aberystwyth.
About 2,100 cyclists were due to take part in the event - which was marking its 20th anniversary.
In a statement organisers said: "With deep sadness we can confirm the passing away of a rider in the 2024 Carten100."
They said the emergency services arrived on the scene at Johnstown "almost immediately" and reacted with "great speed and professionalism".
"Everyone involved in the organisation of the Carten100 would like to express their sincere condolences."
They described the man's death as a "terrible tragedy for his wife, family, and friends".
