CVHD reports kitten tests positive for Rabies in Campbell County

ALTAVISTA, Va. (WFXR)— The Central Virginia Health District (CVHD) reports a stray kitten tested positive for Rabies.

The health district says the kitten was found near the intersection of Park Street and Lola Ave. in Altavista.

VDH advises all to take protective measures to keep themselves and their domestic animals safe. This includes keeping their pets up to date on rabies vaccinations, avoiding contact with stray animals, and ensuring children are taught not to pet, touch, or handle unknown animals.

Rabies is a disease caused by a virus that attacks the nervous system and can be lethal if proper medical care is not given following exposure.

Anyone who may have been exposed to a stray cat or other animal through a bite, scratch, or contact with saliva in the area should consult with their doctor and contact the Campbell County Health Department at (434) 332-9550.
