Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad announces hiatus

PENINSULA, Ohio (WJW) — The Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad (CVSR) is suspending rides to the public for the next few months.

The railroad said during this time, the plan is to update multiple operational tools such as radios, management software and cameras, along with continuing to perfect its procedures to make rides even safer and more streamlined.

Anyone who has purchased tickets for rides or events between the dates of March 8-May 2 is going to be given an opportunity for a full refund, the railroad said.

“Earlier this week, we received the much-awaited funding and trustee approval to move forward with these enhancements,” CVSR President/CEO Joe Mazur said in a statement. “We understand that the decision to suspend operations will cause disappointment to some of our scheduled passengers, for that we are truly sorry, however, it’s never too soon to make continued improvements when safety is concerned.”

The railroad has also been dealing with erosion along the Cuyahoga River in recent years. A part of the Towpath Trail in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park is currently closed until May 3 to stabilize the riverbank.
