Cumberland County student found with credit card reader

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – Police in Cumberland County are investigating after a student was found with a device that could obtain someone’s credit card information.

Shippensburg Police say on May 2 a school resource officer was informed that a student had a device in school that could be used to gain credit card information.

Police Chief Tom Young says the code reader device can be purchased on Amazon and can capture codes and signals from not just credit cards, but also phones and tablets.

Officers became involved after a teacher spotted the device and notified the school’s IT Department.

Cumberland County mother accused of choking, biting, headbutting child

Young says the child had not yet used the device but was becoming familiar with it.

Police say they’re still investigating the incident.
