The Cudahy School Board has chosen Michelle Garven as the district's next superintendent.

Garven is currently superintendent for the Trevor-Wilmot Consolidated School District superintendent. She will start July 1 and will work with current Cudahy superintendent Tina Owen-Moore and the school district administrative team to begin planning for the transition, a news release from the district said.

The board considered 21 candidates and narrowed that field to three finalists before announcing Garven as its choice. The other two finalists were chief academic officer Elizabeth Freeman of Community Unit School District 300 in Algonquin, Illinois, and director of equity and instruction Maggy Olson of the Greendale School District.

Garven will replace Owen-Moore, who announced her resignation in January. Owen-Moore's resignation will take effect June 30. In her resignation letter, Owen-Moore said that "despite all of my best efforts, the divisions on the Board and preconceived ideas about who I am as a person have plagued my experience, making it almost unbearable, and have stilted forward progress for the District."

Owen-Moore was one of three finalists for the Neenah School District's superintendent position, but that job went to Appleton Area School District assistant superintendent Steve Harrison instead.

Garven's experience, before her current role, includes positions such as director of learning services in the Grafton School District and high school principal and K-12 director of curriculum and instruction in Saint Francis Public Schools.

She holds a doctorate in leadership, service and learning from Cardinal Stritch University; a master's degree in curriculum and instruction from Alverno College and a bachelor's degree in education from Mount Mary College. She is also a member of the Principals' Center Board of Directors at the Milwaukee School of Engineering.
