Cuba Gooding Sr, the soul singer and father of actor Cuba Gooding Jr, has died at the age of 72.

Gooding, whose group The Main Ingredient had hits in the 70s with Everybody Plays the Fool and Just Don't Want to be Lonely, was found in his car on Ventura Boulevard, Los Angeles, at around 1pm on Thursday.

ABC reports the Los Angeles County coroner's office as saying drug paraphernalia and bottles of alcohol were found in the vehicle, and that Gooding had appeared to have died either from natural causes or a drug overdose.
