CT state police trooper involved in three-car rollover crash on I-84

Three people were injured during a three-car rollover crash on Interstate 84 in Middlebury last week involving a state police cruiser.

The crash occurred shortly before 11:20 p.m. on Friday on I-84 East just east of the South Street Bridge overpass where a trooper had pulled over a 2006 Hyundai Sonata, according to Connecticut State Police.

State police said the trooper had his emergency lights on and that both vehicles were stopped on the right shoulder when a 40-year-old Waterbury man, driving a 2009 Toyota RAV4, struck the driver-side front quarter panel of the police vehicle. The Toyota then struck the rear of the Hyundai, causing the RAV4 to flip over and land on its roof.

The driver of the Toyota and the driver of the Hyundai, a 22-year-old Southington man, were both taken to Waterbury Hospital for minor injuries, according to state police.

The 26-year-old trooper involved was taken to Danbury Hospital for minor injuries.

The driver of the Toyota was charged with failure to maintain the proper lane.

State police are still investigating the crash.
