CT motorcycle rider dies in crash Sunday; police seek to speak to driver who left scene

A 68-year-old motorcycle rider was killed Sunday when the vehicle crossed the center lane of a local road and struck a car, Stamford police said.

Police said the Stamford Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad is investigating the fatal “motor vehicle vs. motorcycle” collision that occurred on Newfield Avenue just south of N. Meadows Lane in that city at about 12:22 p.m. Sunday.

Stamford police said a “150cc small motorcycle”, being operated by the 68-year-old Stamford resident was southbound on Newfield Avenue and “it appears that the operator of the motorcycle crossed into” the northbound travel lane and “made contact with what is believed to be a white 4 door sedan, then a second vehicle.”

Police said the collision with the first vehicle caused the operator to be thrown off of the motorcycle. “The motorcycle then continued traveling (southbound) until coming to final rest just off of the roadway on the (northbound side) of the road.”

The white sedan did not stay on the scene, and continued traveling northbound, police said in an emailed statement. The second vehicle stayed on the scene and that operator attempted to assist the motorcycle operator, police said.

“Several witnesses stopped and attempted to render aid to the operator until EMS arrived,’ police said. “Despite all of the life-saving efforts, the operator was pronounced dead on the scene by EMS.”

Police said the the name of the victim is not being releases because, while next of kin has been notified, they need to notify additional family.

The investigation is ongoing and police Sunday evening were seeking to speak with “the operator of the white 4 door vehicle that fled the scene.”

Anyone has additional information on the crash, or on the operator of the vehicle that left the scene, is asked to contact the Stamford PD Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad at 203-977-4712.
