CT man accused of threatening to blow up animal shelter after dog was quarantined for biting officer

A man has been arrested for allegedly threatening to blow up an animal shelter in South Windsor after his dog was quarantined for biting a police officer.

Joshua A. Sage, 41, of Windsor, was taken into custody Monday in connection with three warrants out for his arrest, according to the South Windsor Police Department.

One of the warrants stemmed from an incident involving the Tyler Regional Animal Care Shelter, which police allege Sage threatened to blow up in late March. Police also allege that he also threatened physical harm to one of the employees at the shelter.

According to police, the threat followed an incident earlier in March when Sage’s dog was quarantined because it bit an officer.

During that incident, Sage was found passed out in the driver’s seat of a vehicle that had been reported stolen from Courtesy Auto, located at 1265 John Fitch Boulevard, police said. The vehicle was severely damaged as a result of the theft and had a license plate on it that belonged to another car, according to police.

Police said Sage was found to have a suspended license at the time and a crack pipe in the vehicle.

One of the warrants Sage was served with stemmed from the car theft. He also had a warrant out for his arrest for not showing up to court on an unrelated matter, according to police.

Sage faces charges of larceny of a motor vehicle, second-degree criminal trover, use of drug paraphernalia, second-degree threatening, operating under suspension, improper use of a marker plate and failure to appear.

He was being held on a $10,000 bond and was expected to be arraigned in Manchester Superior Court on Tuesday.
