CSUSM women’s basketball to Elite Eight

SAN MARCOS (KUSI) — In a first for the women’s basketball program at CSU San Marcos, the Cougars are headed to the Elite Eight in St. Joseph, Missouri. Three wins will bring them their first NCAA title.

The team has already won the CCAA and Pac West titles.

“This is really a cool opportunity,” senior guard Mina Tameilau said. “When we lost in the Sweet 16 last year it was a really harsh feeling…Coach bringing in the pieces and us putting in the work feels really rewarding.”

“We’re three away from winning the whole thing,” head coach Renee Jimenez added. “I want them to enjoy the moment.

“But we’re going there to win. We’re not travelling 1600 miles just to be in the Elite Eight. We’re going there to win a national championship.”
