CSPD identifies two killed in Murray Boulevard shooting

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) has released the identities of two men killed in a shooting on North Murray Boulevard on the evening of Thursday, May 16.

23-year-old Ramon Ruacho and 19-year-old Elijah Espinoza were killed in a shooting shortly after 10 p.m. on May 16, according to CSPD.

Officers originally responded just after 10:15 p.m. to the 200 block of North Murray Boulevard, just south of Platte Avenue, on a reported shooting. When officers arrived, they found three victims suffering from gunshot wounds. One of the victims was declared dead on scene, and another died after being transported to the hospital.

The third victim was taken to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. No suspect is in custody, however, CSPD said this does not appear to be a random act. Detectives continue to investigate, including the development of potential suspect information.

The El Paso County Coroner will determine the official cause and manner of death, though the deaths are being investigated as homicides. The investigation remains active, and anyone with information or who may be a witness to the shooting is asked to contact CSPD at (719) 444-4000. These were the 16th and 17th homicides in Colorado Springs in 2024. At the same time in 2023, there had been 11 homicides.
