S. Nevada shooting scene to remain closed into rush hour
UPDATE: THURSDAY 5/23/2024 2:45 p.m.
(COLORADO SPRINGS) — A spokesperson for CSPD sent an update shortly before 3 p.m. on the South Nevada Avenue shooting scene, which has been closed since Thursday morning.
According to CSPD, officers originally responded shortly after 6 a.m. to South Nevada Avenue near the I-25 southbound off-ramp on a report of a man injured with a gunshot wound. The victim was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. No suspect is in custody, and the homicide unit remains on scene in the South Nevada area as of Thursday afternoon around 3 p.m.
CSPD said the area would remain closed for two to three more hours, likely impacting rush hour traffic.
“Our teams are cognizant of the impact to traffic into rush hour and are trying to work quickly, but obviously need to make sure they do a thorough investigation and processing of the scene,” CSPD said.
Travelers are strongly urged to plan alternate routes and avoid the area, as north and southbound Nevada Avenue is closed from I-25 frontage road to East Las Animas Street. CSPD suggests Cimarron Street and Bijou Street as detours.

The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) said roads are closed near South Nevada Avenue and I-25 for a shooting investigation.
CSPD told FOX21 that one person is dead after a shooting in the morning hours of Thursday, May 23. A heavy police presence was seen in the area.

Police are investigating the shooting and are asking the public to avoid the area of S. Nevada Ave. northbound from I-25 to Las Vegas Street and East Mill Street between South Tejon Street and S. Nevada Ave.
