After crystal meth was found in his home, the doctor admitted to smoking crack, cops say

An elderly Santa Rosa County doctor faces several charges after police say they found crystal meth, Xanax and other drugs inside his home.

Dr. Howell Martin, 79, was arrested Tuesday on multiple drug possession charges after police executed a warrant and stumbled upon a narcotics potpourri.

According to the arrest report, officers discovered crystal meth in his kitchen and cocaine-covered drug paraphernalia throughout the residence. Additionally, Martin had marijuana and more than a dozen Xanax pills in a safe.

Police say Martin confessed to owning all of the narcotics and paraphernalia. He then volunteered an extra piece of information.

“Martin admitted to smoking crack cocaine and stated he had used this substance within the last 48 hours,” an officer wrote.

The septuagenarian was promptly taken to the Gulf Breeze Hospital before being booked into Santa Rosa County Jail. He posted his $11,000 bond Wednesday morning, according to the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office.

Court records show Martin, who specializes in urology, was accused of medical malpractice in 2012. The case was later dismissed.
