Cross Country: Healy, Algonquin boys fall to Milford

Conor Healy of Algonquin (1-1) took first in a time of 17:10 in a Mid-Wach A meet yesterday at Hopedale Parklands, but Milford (1-3, 2-1 MWA) followed with the next four places to take the victory, 26-31.

In second was Milford junior Connor Rosenblatt (17:16), followed by Milford junior Matt Ciccui (17:47), Milford senior Jermiah Shyne (17:55) and Milford freshman Alex Croteau (17:59).

Milford's next meet is Tuesday at Fitchburg.

GROTON-DUNSTABLE 18, MARLBOROUGH 41: Josh Daigle finished fourth in 19:03 but Marlborough (1-1 MWB) fell to Groton-Dunstable in a Mid-Wach B meet at the 3.1-mile Groton-Dunstable High School course.

Jon Perry placed sixth in 19:26, while Matt Zinck finished in eighth place with a time of 19:31 for the Panthers.

NASHOBA 21, WESTBOROUGH 41: Myles Hodge, Reid Sullivan, Forrest Hangen and Hayden Smith swept the second through fifth places to pace Nashoba (3-1) past visiting Mid-Wach B rival Westborough (1-1), which got a first-place finish from senior captain Brendan Robertson.

The race was held on Nashoba's 3.08-mile course.

Hodge finished second in 16:39, followed by Sullivan (third, 16:46), Hangen (fourth, 16:54) and Smith (fifth, 17:34). Mark Puleo finished seventh in 17:55 to compete the top five for the Chieftains.

John Egan (sixth, 17:39), Mark Aronson (ninth, 18:04), Andrew Lampe (12th, 18:41) and Brendan Anzures (13th, 18:56) completed the top five for the Rangers.

WELLESLEY SPLITS TRI-MEET, WHILE FRAMINGHAM IS SWEPT: Senior Ben Groleau finished the 2.8-mile course at Wompatuck State Park in Hingham first overall in 14:30, but it wasn't enough as Framingham (1-2 overall, Bay State Conference) lost to Wellesley and Weymouth in a league tri-meet.

Andrew Gramigna (16:17) and Jonathan Chester (16:20) finished 12th and 13th overall for Framingham, respectively.

HOPEDALE 16, SUTTON 45: Chris Kivior led throughout, finishing the 3-mile race in 17:01 to help Hopedale (5-0, 3-0 Dual Valley Conference) to a league win over host Sutton.

Aaron Maurais (17:47), Anthony Tandy (17:49) and Paul Maurais (17:52) finished second through fourth, respectively.

The Blue Raiders will compete in the Ocean State Invitational in Warwick, R.I., on Saturday. The first race starts at 1:05 p.m.

GIRLS

NATICK WINS TRI-MEET: Senior Annie McElaney finished first in 19:33 to lead Natick to Bay State Conference wins over Newton North (22-35) and Milton (16-46), lifting the Red and Blue to 3-0 (overall, BSC).

Senior Erin Murphy was second in 19:44 and junior Erin Holman was fourth in 20:19 at the 2.9-mile course at Houghton's Park in Milton.

The Red and Blue next hit the ground in the Ocean State Cross Country Invitational in Warwick, R.I., Saturday. Their next dual meet is at Brookline Tuesday.

ALGONQUIN 23, MILFORD 38: Milford senior Michelle Savoie took first in a time of 20:55 in a Mid-Wach A meet at Hopedale Parklands, but Milford (1-3, 0-3 MWA) could not keep up with Algonquin (2-0).

Caroline Sevaro of Algonquin was second in 21:15, Kyra Shreeze of Algonquin was third in 21:18, Milford sophomore Lauren Keisling was fourth in 21:51 and Algonquin runner Emily Mauro was fifth in 21:58.

Milford's next meet is Tuesday at Fitchburg.

GROTON-DUNSTABLE 15, MARLBOROUGH 50 - FORFEIT: With only five runners, Marlborough (1-2, 0-2 Mid-Wach) was forced to forfeit when one of its runners dropped out due to injury, despite a strong showing by junior Krissy Fantasia, who finished first for Marlborough (eighth overall) in 25:43 on the 3.1-mile Groton course.

Also running for Marlborough was Shannon Coughlin, 27:19, 11th; Bailey McDougal, 30:33, 17th; and Martha Gowaski, 30:53.

Marlborough will run in the New Balance Ocean State Invitational on Saturday and runs at Nashoba on Tuesday.

NASHOBA 23, WESTBOROUGH 35: Kara McCormack finished first in a time of 21:26 over a 3.03-mile course to lead Nashoba (2-2) past visiting Westborough (1-1) in a Mid-Wach B meet.

Caroline Dennett finished second, 10 seconds behind McCormack to lead Westborough. Rachel Harris (fourth, 22:47), Krissy Rowe (seventh, 23:04) and Helen Gross (10th, 23:13) placed in the top 10 for the Rangers.

Other top-10 finishers for Nashoba were Madison McMullen (third, 21:56), Gwen Savino (fifth, 22:57), Kara Shamsi (sixth, 23:03), Emily Sargent (eighth, 23:13) and Natalie Bettez (ninth, 23:16).

QUABBIN 20, HUDSON 38: Mary Dignan finished third in 22:51 on Hudson's 3.1-mile course to lead the Hawks (0-2) in a Mid-Wach B loss to Quabbin.

Ashley Osmecki was the next finisher for Hudson, placing fifth in 24:24. Eaylee Lowen (ninth, 25:07), Sara Langill (10th, 25:08) and Jacquie Fortin (11th, 25:12) closed out the top five for Hudson.

Dignan finished 2:05 behind Quabbin's first-place runner.

SUTTON 20, HOPEDALE 38: Nora DeBoer finished fourth overall in 22:39 as Hopedale (2-3, 1-2 DVC) fell to host Sutton in a Dual Valley Conference meet at the 3-mile Sutton High School course.

Lauren Bird finished fifth in 22:47 while Casey Sether took seventh place with a time of 23:35 for the Blue Raiders.

FRAMINGHAM SWEPT IN TRI-MEET: Nikki Charifson finished 22nd in 20:05, but Framingham (0-3) lost in a tri-meet to Weymouth and Wellesley, both by 15-50 scores.

Also running for the Flyers were Anne Gowan (29th, 20:55), Mia Charifson (31st, 21:15), Andrea White (36th, 21:38) and Kate Lessard (38th, 21:55).
