Crews searching for missing hiker in Olympic National Park

A search is underway for a missing hiker in Olympic National Park, the National Park Service announced Thursday afternoon.

Laura Macke was reported missing Wednesday at 10 a.m. She is 35, 5 feet, 6 inches tall, weighs 200 pounds, and has curly, light brown hair in a bob cut.

According to NPS, Macke had a backcountry permit for Sunday and Monday. She was traveling solo with a planned trip to the Enchanted Valley with a stop to camp at Pyrites Creek.

Macke indicated that she would still be in the backcountry on Tuesday, but she has not returned.

Macke is known to hike in a black and white striped shirt, a black rain jacket and a maroon puffy jacket.

Search and rescue personnel went into the wilderness Thursday to search for Macke. A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter was also involved in the search but had to be called off due to weather. More searches are planned for Friday.

Anyone who was in the areas of Lake Quinault, Graves Creek, or Enchanted Valley between Oct. 30 and Nov. 1 or who has information regarding Macke is asked to call or text the tip line at 1-888-653-0009 or submit a tip online at go.nps.gov/SubmitATip. You can also email nps_isb@nps.gov.
