Crews search Nashville riverbank for clues on missing Missouri student

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Crews are searching a Nashville riverbank Thursday for potential clues around the disappearance of missing Missouri student Riley Strain.

Stran, a 22-year-old and student at the University of Missouri, disappeared Friday night after leaving a bar in downtown Nashville.

On Thursday, crews with the Metro Nashville Police Department’s Urban Search & Rescue team searched along the Cumberland River. Investigators say Strain’s phone last pinged near that area.

Nashville Police Sgt. Bob Nielsen said there weren’t any new developments on Strain’s whereabouts from Thursday’s searches. He told Nashville media members Thursday there is not any indication of crime or foul play in connection with Strain’s disappearance.

Nielsen says police will recanvass the area around the riverfront and see if there are additional videos to review or additional people to check with on Strain.

“This is strictly a missing person investigation at this point,” said Nielsen. “Right now, all of our resources are dedicated toward finding him. We’re utilizing all of our detectives and resources in looking for him.”

Authorities released more surveillance videos on Wednesday, capturing Strain’s final moments before his disappearance. The videos were captured just moments after Strain was kicked out of country music star Luke Bryan’s bar.

One piece of surveillance footage, timestamped just before 10 p.m. on the night of Strain’s disappearance, shows him crossing a street and heading toward the Cumberland River.

Police are also checking with people in nearby homeless camps and business owners for information. FOX 2 will update as more information becomes available.
