2 hospitalized after fire at Getzville senior apartment complex

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A fire at a senior apartment complex Sunday in Getzville caused two people to be hospitalized and $650,000 in damage, Amherst Fire officials said.

The fire began around 5:25 p.m. at the Hopkins Court Apartments located at 2250 North French Rd, with residents reporting a blaze on a second-floor exterior balcony that extended into the apartment. There was also a report of a person trapped where the fire had started.

Heavy fire was confirmed on the second floor which extended into the building’s attic Upon officials’ arrival. Crews entered the complex and assisted one resident out of the building while checking other apartments.

Numerous residents were evaluated on scene for minor injuries, while two were transported to local hospitals also with minor injuries.

Residents displaced by the fire are being relocated to the Amherst Senior Center at 370 John James Audobon Pkwy. Anyone seeking information about residents’ whereabouts is asked to call 716-858-6419.
