Overnight fire destroys building, at least 2 vehicles at Myrtle Beach cemetery

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — An overnight fire destroyed a building and at least two vehicles at the Ocean Woods Cemetery in Myrtle Beach.

Myrtle Beach firefighters responded at about 2:20 a.m., and it took less than 30 minutes to put out the fire. The cemetery is off S. Kings Highway south of Harrelson Boulevard.

It’s unclear what the building was used for. No details about the fire were immediately available from authorities, and the fire remains under investigation.

The cemetery covers 20 acres and has about 7,000 graves, the oldest of which dates to 1879, according to information on the city of Myrtle Beach website. It is open to the public between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. daily.
