North Riverside Park Mall reopens after fire; food court remains closed

NORTH RIVERSIDE, Ill. — The food court inside the North Riverside Park Mall will remain closed until Friday following what a mall spokesperson said was a “small fire” that sent thick, black smoke skyward.

The mall, near West Cermak Drive and South Harlem Avenue, has reopened to customers.

First responders were called to the area at about 12:15 p.m. Thursday after fire broke out in the food court. Video posted to social media showed large flames inside the Smokehouse restaurant.

A statement from the Feil Organization, which has owned the mall since 2004, said the fire impacted a single food court eatery. The food court will reopen following a health inspection.

There were no injuries, the spokesperson said.

Video from WGN’s SkyCam 9 showed the smoke had mostly cleared by 1 p.m. but fire crews and police remained on the scene.
