Crews battle ‘large’ trash fire at waste disposal station in DC

3.23.24 9:00 a.m. Update: The fire was extinguished at approximately 12:30 AM, 3 hours after dispatch. There were no structures involved and no injuries.

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — DC Fire and EMS said crews were battling a “large outside” trash fire at a waste disposal station Friday night.

The fire broke out at the Fort Totten Solid Waste Disposal Transfer Station, located at 4900 John McCormack Road in Northeast D.C., near the Fort Totten Metro Station.

DC Fire and EMS said in a post on X, formerly Twitter, that crews were trying to confine the fire and extinguish it with “large diameter water streams.”

The fire was not threatening any nearby structures. A DC Fire and EMS spokesperson said no injuries have been reported.
