Cream Cheese Sold at Aldi Recalled Across Dozens of States

Aldi has issued a recall for four specific kinds of cream cheese that were sold in more than two dozen U.S. states.

The recall notice was issued on May 9 in cooperation with Schreiber Foods, Inc. The recall, which Aldi said was issued “out of an abundance of caution,” was prompted by a concern that the four specific cream cheese products could have a “potential salmonella” risk.

The four cream cheese products impacted by the recall include the Happy Farms Whipped Cream Cheese Spread, Chive & Onion Cream Cheese Spread, Cream Cheese Spread and the Strawberry Cream Cheese Spread. The recall affects cream cheese products sold in 8-ounce packaging with varying sell by dates in August and September of this year. The specific sell by dates and UPC codes of the impacted products are included on Aldi’s official recall notice and on the list below.

According to Aldi’s recall notice, the impacted cream cheese products were sold in stores across the country. In addition to Washington, D.C., the following 28 states have Aldi stores that sold the products impacted by the recall: Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

Aldi customers who discover that they have any of the recalled cream cheese products in their possession have been advised to either throw the products out or return them to Aldi, where the supermarket chain said they can receive “a full refund.” Customers seeking additional information about the recall have been urged to contact Schreiber Foods, Inc.

People exposed to salmonella can experience a variety of symptoms including stomach upset, fevers and headaches. While many people who contract a salmonella infection typically recover on their own in four to seven days, the infection can cause dehydration and, in some cases, may require medical attention, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
