All the Crazy Things Trump Has Done on the First Day Of Hush Money Criminal Trial

Jury selection in Donald Trump’s hush money criminal trial has now entered day two and there has been no shortage of ridiculous moments. The trial will not be televised, so there’s no video footage or photos of the proceedings.

However, media outlets have been allowed in the court room and diligently report on its happenings. One of the most shocking moments from day one is that Trump seemingly fell asleep in court. According to NBC News’ report, it was quite an awkward sight to behold.

“Trump’s eyes were closed during part of Monday’s proceedings when [Judge Juan Merchan] was reading the potential jurors his instructions — creating speculation about whether he was asleep or just deep in thought,” the outlet wrote.

In addition, the New York Times stated that the former president “appeared to nod off a few times, his mouth going slack and his head drooping onto his chest.” The Washington Post also noted that Trump “closed his eyes and at times appeared to nod off.”

During the course of his campaign to officially garner the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, Trump and his allies have consistently attacked President Biden and his cognitive abilities (they’ve nicknamed him “Sleepy Joe”). However, Trump’s nap in court underlines his hypocrisy and utter lack of self-awareness.

In a courthouse statement, Trump took it upon himself to whine over being forced to go to trial in the first place. He called it a “political persecution like never before” and an “assault on America.” Trump labeled Judge Juan Merchan a “Trump hating judge” who should be recused from the case, though all attempts to remove the judge have been unsuccessful.

In addition, his legal team requested Justice Juan Merchan not to hold the trial on Friday, May 17 so Trump can attend his son’s graduation at Oxbridge Academy in Palm Beach, Florida. Merchan made no promises, so of course Trump had a fit.

“I was looking forward to that graduation with his mother and father there, and it looks like the judge does not allow me to escape this scam,” Trump said in the hallway of Manhattan Supreme Court after the first day of trial.

The hush money case may be the only case to face a jury before the election. If convicted, Trump could actually face jail time. Sadly, this is most likely just the beginning of his theatrics.
