69-year-old man killed in US-460 crash in Botetourt County

UPDATE: 7:50 P.M. BOTETOURT COUNTY, Va. (WFXR)– Virginia State Police reported a 69-year-old man died during the crash involving a tractor-trailer on US-460 in Botetourt County.

According to VSP, a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer entered US-460 from Healing Springs Road allegedly failed to yield the right-of-way, and attempted to cross both lanes of travel. The vehicle was struck by a 2020 Freightliner tractor-trailer traveling east on US-460, which caused the tractor-trailer to overturn.

State police say the man driving the Chevrolet died at the scene. He was reportedly not wearing his seatbelt.

The driver of the Freightliner was not injured.

UPDATE: 2:22 P.M. BOTETOURT COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — After a crash led to US-460 East being closed for hours, the Virginia Department of Transportation says all lanes are open.

UPDATE: 11:18 A.M. BOTETOURT COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Several first responders are on the scene of a crash that resulted in a tractor-trailer overturning on its side on US-460 in Botetourt County.

According to state police, the crash occurred around 9 a.m. Details are still limited, but police have confirmed a vehicle was also involved in the crash.

Currently, all eastbound lanes are closed. We’re told one lane on US-460 West is being used to move all eastbound traffic.

UPDATED at 10:27 A.M. BOTETOURT COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — All eastbound lanes on US-460, Blue Ridge Blvd, in Botetourt County are shut down after a tractor-trailer and vehicle crashed on Thursday morning.

Details are limited; however, the crash is near Healing Springs Road.

Drivers are encouraged to avoid the area and seek an alternative route of travel until the crash is cleared.

Currently, it is unknown if anyone was injured. Traffic is currently backed up for almost two miles.

The crash is under investigation by Virginia State Police.
