Crash involving wrong way driver on 10 Freeway leaves 1 dead, 3 seriously injured

A crash on the 10 Freeway that involved a wrong way driver killed one person and sent three others to the hospital with serious injuries, authorities said.

According to preliminary information, the three-car collision occurred just after 1:50 a.m. Sunday on the westbound span of the 10 near Overland Avenue in West L.A.’s Rancho Park neighborhood.

Before the crash, officers were receiving calls of a motorist traveling east in the westbound lanes, CHP officials confirmed to KTLA, also stating that their initial investigation indicated the crash was caused by that driver.

The deceased victim has not been identified; it is not known whether they were in the vehicle traveling down the freeway in the wrong direction. No information on the injured individuals was released.

Video from the scene obtained by KTLA shows first responders with the Los Angeles Fire Department extricating the injured victims out of the crumpled vehicles before transporting them to nearby hospitals.

CHP is investigating whether the motorist driving the wrong way was under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol.

Residents of Southern California condo complex living in fear of neighbor

A SigAlert was issued for the 10 Freeway at Overland, and authorities completely shut down the affected stretch of roadway during their initial investigation.

The freeway is scheduled to be reopened by 7:30 a.m., law enforcement officials said.
