1 dead, 1 critically injured following I-24 crash that caused hours-long closure in South Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A single-vehicle crash that closed a portion of Interstate 24 for hours Monday morning resulted in the death of a 22-year-old, officials said.

According to the Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD), the single-vehicle crash was reported shortly before 12 a.m. on Sunday, April 28 in the eastbound lanes of I-24 near Harding Place.

Authorities reported a preliminary investigation indicates a white Dodge Charger was traveling at a high rate of speed and passing other vehicles on the shoulder before the 25-year-old driver lost control.

The Dodge reportedly rotated before hitting a rock wall on its rear side. The rear passenger — identified as 22-year-old Keijhan Ameer Roby — was pronounced dead at the scene.

Meanwhile, the 25-year-old driver was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with serious injuries, officials said. The front seat passenger was not injured in the crash.

According to MNPD, there were no signs of impairment at the scene.

Motorists were advised to avoid the area Monday morning until officials were able to clear the scene. At 4:30 a.m., the eastbound lanes reopened.

An investigation into the deadly crash remains ongoing. No other information was released.
