Fatal crash on Campostella Road in Chesapeake causes power outages

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — A man is dead after a car hit a utility pole on Campostella Road on Sunday night, police said.

Just after 7 p.m., Chesapeake police officers responded to a single-vehicle crash at the 2000 block of Campostella Road.

The involved vehicle was driving on Campostella Road when it hit a utility pole and struck the back of a business located at Campostella Road and N. Battlefield Boulevard, police said. The man driving was pronounced dead after being transported to the hospital.

There was a gas leak at the site that was stopped. Traffic signals at nearby intersections as well as surrounding areas experienced power outages as a result of the crash. The roadway has since reopened.
