Crane collapses in NYC as Hurricane Sandy closes in [VIDEO]

In a display of nature’s raw power, part of a construction crane on the corner of 57th and 6th Avenue in New York City was brought crashing to the ground during Hurricane Sandy on Monday. Another part of the crane is still hanging precariously above the city.

The crane was part of the construction site for One57, a luxury tower of condominiums designed by Christian De Portzamparc. The One57 Website bills the tower as “An Iconic Transformation of the New York Skyline,” promising to “Redefine luxury New York living.”

The damage is suspected to have been caused by the high winds from Hurricane Sandy, some of which have measured as high as 80 mph.

The storm is due to make landfall in the next few hours on a projected path between Dover and Trenton, New Jersey.

Reports say that emergency services are on the scene.
