Suspect dies from injures in Calcasieu Parish officer-involved shooting

UPDATE 3/11: The suspect in the Calcasieu Parish officer-involved shooting has been identified as Quinton C. Baker, 37, of Gadsden, Alabama. Baker was airlifted to a Lake Charles hospital were he died from injuries received in the incident.

Officials said approximately two kilos of suspected cocaine was recovered during the investigation.

ORIGINAL STORY 3/7: IOWA, La. (KLFY) — A Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s deputy faces a State Police officer-involved shooting investigation after allegedly shooting the driver of a vehicle that was kidnapping the deputy, authorities said.

According to the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office, a deputy with the Combined Anti-Drug Task Force initiated a traffic stop at about 10 a.m. today on eastbound I-10 near mile marker 38, about five miles west of Iowa.

During the traffic stop, the deputy allegedly found drugs as he was conducting a search of the vehicle. While the deputy was still inside the vehicle, the suspect entered the driver’s side and drove off with the deputy still inside, kidnapping the deputy, officials said.

According to CPSO, the deputy commanded the suspect to stop but he did not comply, at which time the deputy shot the suspect. The vehicle crashed and the suspect and deputy were taken to a local hospital.
