Coworker Charged with Murder of Woman Whose Body Was Found Stuffed in Suitcase in San Diego

San Diego police have made an arrest in the death of a 21-year-old woman whose

body was found stuffed in a suitcase

behind a local hotel earlier this month, PEOPLE confirms.

Joshua Matthew Palmer, 33, was arrested on Friday for the murder of 21-year-old Shauna Haynes, Lt. Ray Valentin of the San Diego Police Department tells PEOPLE. Palmer has been charged with one count of murder.

Local media reports the pair were dating, but Valentin says, “We have not confirmed they were dating.” He said they worked together at a local restaurant.

The motive behind the murder is still under investigation, Valentin says.

On Wednesday, a resident of the hotel found Haynes’ body near the hotel’s trash cans while taking out the trash.

Information of whether Palmer has been assigned a lawyer or has entered a plea is not available.
