Cowboys' DeMarcus Lawrence torches refs: 'Do your job'

DeMarcus Lawrence is going to be getting a bill from the league this week, but he’s just fine with that. Lawrence celebrated the Dallas Cowboys’ 30-10 dismantling of the woeful New York Giants by ripping the game’s officials a new one.

Lawrence, a defensive end, apparently has a problem with the fact that he and his defensive mates can’t seem to buy a holding call.

“The refs [are] out there for nothing,” he said after the game at his locker. “I didn’t see a holding call the last five games. It’s ridiculous.” He claimed he’s getting “tackled” by offensive linemen as the referees just watch.

“I feel like it’s unfair,” he said. “If you’re trying to protect quarterbacks, you’ve got to protect me.” Lawrence is only saying, in stark terms, the complaint defensive players have had for generations: that officials protect the glory boys of the offense while letting the defense take lumps, unloved and ignored.

“[Expletive] them refs,” Lawrence concluded, “that’s all I’ve got to say.” Yeah, pretty safe bet the NFL will have something to say back at him.
