Cowboys rookie running back, Ezekiel Elliott, is at the center of a budding domestic controversy. Tiffany Thompson, Elliott’s alleged former girlfriend, made headlines when she posted pictures of bruises on her instagram account, followed with a message about domestic violence.

According to TMZ Sports Thompson has filed a report saying Elliott had assaulted her while in a car together. Witnesses are saying nothing happened and it’s important to note that Elliott has not been arrested. With the recent controversy surrounding this franchise, I don’t have to explain how big of a deal this could be if it is proven to be true.

Elliott is the Cowboys’ prized 1st-round pick, who many are counting on him to resurrect the team’s running game. Elliott had denied all of these claims. The team has just dealt with the negative publicity that came with the Greg Hardy incident and decided to go away from Hardy as a result of growing tension and locker room divide.

Domestic abuse policy is something the league is still recovering from since the many incidents, particularly the Ray Rice video from a few years ago. Rice recently said he would play for free, donating his entire salary to domestic violence groups. Many think Rice simply isn’t good enough to play in the NFL anymore and it has less to do with the scandal than believed. Even if he was younger and still productive, the video being public is really too much for any franchise to try and hide from.

The difference with the Greg Hardy incident was that there wasn’t a video to prove exactly what Hardy did or didn’t do. It is generally believed he was guilty but the woman dropped the suit and Hardy was eligible to play after his suspension last season.

The pictures that Elliott’s alleged ex-girlfriend posted could be damning. Deadspin posted the pictures earlier this morning, which just happens to be Elliott’s 21st birthday.
