COVID-busting robot disinfects Key West airport

The robot reportedly emits high-intensity ultraviolet UVC light to kill pathogens that lie on surfaces and are in the air. It’s designed to remove 99.9 percent of pathogens including COVID-19, according to its maker, UVD Robots.

“We’ve made every effort possible against the COVID to protect passengers’ safety,” Richard Strickland, director of airports for the Keys’ Monroe County, said on Wednesday (December 9).

An operator oversees its progress, and a sensor turns off the UV light if a human presence is detected, according to the Florida Keys News Bureau.
