COVID-19 spread still declining in region, state

Jun. 7—Northeast Pennsylvania had half the new COVID-19 deaths recorded statewide Monday, but long-term trends in the virus' spread still look better, according to an analysis of state Department of Health data.

The Department of Health reported six new deaths statewide with one each in Lackawanna, Luzerne and Susquehanna counties.

The new deaths increased the state total to 27,360 and the regional to 1,864.

The department reported 297 new cases with only 23 of them in Northeast Pennsylvania. So far, the state has had 1,205,989 cases, including 77,879 in the region.

The new case reports left the count during the previous two weeks still down statewide and regionally from the day before.

By county:

Lackawanna added three cases for 18,475 total, including 2,896 probable. The new death increased the total to 476.

Luzerne added 10 cases for 31,918 total, including 2,598 probable. The new deaths increased the total to 817.

Monroe added two cases for 14,731 total, including 458 probable, and remained at 320 deaths.

Pike added five cases for 4,006 total, including 431 probable, and remained at 54 deaths.

Susquehanna added two cases for 2,646 total,including 348 probable. The new death increased the total to 63.

Wayne added one case for 4,119 total, including 436 probable, and remained at 80 deaths.

Wyoming remained at 1,984 cases, including 352 probable, and 54 deaths.
