COVID-19 outbreaks continue in schools, retirement centers

Jan. 28—Coronavirus cases continued to spike in nursing homes, retirement communities and public schools in the Rogue Valley last week as the Omicron variant surge goes on.

Those trends were apparent in the Oregon Health Authority's latest COVID-19 weekly outbreak report, showing places throughout the state — schools, nursing and retirement homes, child care facilities and private workplaces — where COVID-19 is present.

The latest report, which included data from Jan. 17-23, showed that of all of the schools in Jackson and Josephine counties, Grants Pass High School had the most COVID-19 cases among students, with 59 out sick, and Regency Care of Rogue Valley had the most cases among its seniors, with 27 declared sick.

In terms of workplaces, the Josephine County Jail had the most cases, with 26 employees sick.

In Jackson County, the following nursing homes and retirement communities had active COVID-19 outbreaks:

Lakeland Senior Living (10 cases), Hearthstone Nursing and Rehabilitation Center (14 cases), Ridgeview Assisted Living Facility (six cases), Brookdale Ashland (eight cases, one death), Avamere at Waterford Assisted Living Facility (four cases, one death), Avamere at Three Fountains (19 cases), Bonaventure of Medford Assisted Living (five cases), Skylark Assisted Living (15 cases, one death), Springs at Veranda Park (four cases), Farmington Square — Medford (16 cases), Celia's House in Holmes Park (five cases), Rogue Valley Manor (17 cases), Linda Vista Nursing & Rehab Center (nine cases), Avamere Health Services of Rogue Valley (12 cases), Springs at Anna Maria (eight cases), Pioneer Village (10 cases), Pear Valley Senior Living (four cases), Ashley Manor — Brookhurst (seven cases), Village at Valley View (10 cases), Roxy Ann Memory Community (three cases).

In Josephine County, the following nursing homes and retirement communities had active outbreaks:

Royale Gardens Health & Rehabilitation Center (16 cases), Applegate House of Grants Pass (four cases, one death), Applegate House of Grants Pass (four cases, one death), Regency Care of Rogue Valley (27 cases), Countryside Village (five cases), Oak Lane Retirement (five cases), Laurel Hill Nursing Center (three cases), Cascades of Grants Pass — The Village (eight cases), Bridge Assisted Living (18 cases), The Suites Assisted Living Community (three cases).

No active outbreaks were reported at workplaces in Jackson County in this week's report. In Josephine County, the Josephine County Jail (26 cases), American Medical Response (19 cases), Rogue Valley Youth Correctional Facility (11 cases), Fire Mountain Gems (nine cases), Grants Pass Toyota (seven cases), Rogue Valley Door (seven cases), Rural Metro Fire Department (six cases) had active outbreaks.

Rainbow's End Early Learning Center LCC (six cases) and Playground Early Learning Center (three cases) were the only two preschools with active outbreaks listed in this week's report.

In Jackson County, the following K-12 schools were experiencing outbreaks:
