New COVID-19 cases in state lowest in nearly 15 months

Jun. 13—A seven-county region of Northeast Pennsylvania reported 18 new COVID-19 cases Sunday, the fewest since 10 on May 31, according to data from the state Department of Health.

Luzerne County, which accounted for two-thirds of the new cases Sunday, has now recorded more than 32,000 since the start of the pandemic.

To date, there have been 78,069 cases reported in the region.

One new COVID-19 death, reported in Lackawanna County, raised the regional total to 1,874.

There were 226 new cases reported across the state Sunday, raising the overall number to 1,208,513. It was the fewest new cases reported statewide on a single day since 207 on March 24, 2020.

An additional 14 COVID-19 deaths on Sunday increased the statewide total to 27,488, but the number has dropped across the state for five consecutive days.

In the local counties:

Lackawanna added one case for 18,499 total, of which 2,898 were probable cases. One new death raised the total to 480.

Luzerne added 12 cases for 32,008 total, including 2,606 probable. Deaths held at 821.

Monroe added four cases for 14,775 total, including 465 probable. Deaths stayed at 321.

Pike remained at 4,016 total cases, including 434 probable, and 54 deaths.

Susquehanna remained at 2,652 total cases, including 350 probable, and 62 deaths.

Wayne remained at 4,127 total cases, including 437 probable, and 82 deaths.

Wyoming added one case for 1,992 total, including 355 probable, and held at 54 deaths.
