County purchases truck, mowing head for community development services and public works

Mar. 13—TIFTON — The County Board of Commissioners secured new equipment for public works and community development services at its most recent meeting.

Commissioners approved the purchase of a 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500 and a rotary mowing head, for respective use by Chris Davis, community development support services director, and the public works department's Energreen mower, during their March 11 meeting.

Jim Carter, county manager, explained that the truck Davis had been using was wearing down and had accumulated well over 130,000 miles. He reported that the county had received six bids for a new vehicle, with Woody Folsom Ford being the lowest at $53,387 to be purchased through ARPA interest funds.

Public works director Jason Jordan likewise requested the purchase of the rotary head, stating at the previous meeting it would go to replacing the flail head on another of the county's Energreen mowers.

Jordan explained that the public works department had sent the flail head to the manufacturer to inquire about refurbishing and trading opportunities, but had been told by the manufacturer that the piece of equipment had no value.

Instead, they offered the county the rotary mowing head and a Lexan windshield for the passenger side, where the mowing will be done from, to purchase for the tractor at $18,268.25.
