UPDATE: Escambia County Sheriff’s Office explains how worker died Monday morning

UPDATE (5:30 p.m.): The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office has released more information about a county employee who died suddenly Monday morning.

No name has been provided, but the new information provides a clearer picture of what reportedly happened.

“At 9:02 a.m. the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office responded to an accident in the area of Detroit Boulevard and Cove Avenue,” they said in a Facebook post.

“While on the scene, deputies discovered that county workers were cutting a tree when the tree swung and struck the boom arm,” the post said.

A 59-year-old male employee was knocked from the bucket to the ground, according to the ECSO.

EMS pronounced him dead, the post said.

“A preliminary investigation revealed that no harness or helmet was being worn during the accident,” the post said.

UPDATE (2:15 p.m.): Escambia County has issued a statement about the employee who died this morning.

The county didn’t share the employee’s name or more details about the incident other than it occurred while crews were working on trees.

But they did express condolences.

“On behalf of Escambia County, I would like to extend our condolences to the family, friends and co-workers of our colleague,” Escambia County Administrator Wes Moreno said. “This is a difficult time that we will all navigate together.

“While the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office conducts its investigation into the tragic incident, we will continue to provide support to our fellow employees and assist those impacted by today’s loss.”

ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. (WKRG) — An Escambia County employee is dead after a work-related incident, according to the EC Public Safety department.

The employee died around 9:02 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 26, after an incident along Detroit Boulevard near Cove Avenue.
