County appoints members to board of equalization

Apr. 24—Cumberland County's Board of Equalization has been set for the 2024-26 property tax years after the Cumberland County Commission appointed five members for the board during its April meeting.

The board reviews property owner's complaints regarding property tax assessments.

The county legislative body of each county during the April session of each even numbered year shall elect for a term of two years, five freeholders and taxpayers who shall constitute a county board of equalization, according to Tennessee Code Annotated 67-1-401.

Members recommended and appointed by the county commission include:

Teddy Wanamaker

The city of Crossville approved appointing Jim Inman to the Board of Equalization. The city is allowed to appoint one member to the board, according to TCA.

As a condition of serving on the board, members and county hearing officers are required to complete four hours of annual training to include board governance, open meetings requirements and other topics related to duties of serving and provided by the Comptroller of the Treasury of Tennessee.
