Council praises Susquehanna River Cleanup Project leader

Apr. 22—SUNBURY — The Susquehanna River Cleanup Project continues to grow and Chairperson Danielle Bronowicz told Sunbury City Council on Monday that 175 people volunteered their time this past weekend to clean the river and surrounding areas.

Bronowicz received praise from the crowd in attendance at Monday's City Council meeting. Council members and Mayor Josh Brosious thanked her for another successful year of gathering volunteers to help clean up.

"We are like the place to be now," Bronowicz said of the group. "We are thankful for everyone who helped, and this truly is a team effort."

Brosious thanked Bronowicz for her continued support of the city.

Bronowicz said the group collected 2.5 tons of debris, and 1.5 tons of tires.

Council also agreed to work with the group who is representing the skate park on 4th Street.

Eister said the park's lights need to be replaced. The group and council agreed to split the $4,600 estimate to replace the lighting.

Council also approved the resignation of officer Dara Kieski as a full-time officer and hired her as a part-time officer.

Kieski thanked Police Chief Travis Bremigen for her position and said she looked forward to remaining on the force in a part-time role.

Selinsgrove police officer Francis Petrovich was also hired as a part-time officer.

Brosious also said the police department will be working with state Rep. Mike Stender on ways to get grants to help offset costs for equipment.

Council meets again on May 13 at 6:15 p.m. inside City Hall, on Market Street.
