Could Walmart finally be coming to OakLeaf Plantation?

Target. Publix. Home Depot. Kohl’s.

They’ve all been fixtures at OakLeaf Plantation for more than 16 years, along with newer arrivals HomeGoods, Hobby Lobby and Aldi.

However, one big-box retailer — the nation’s biggest — doesn't have a presence in the Southwest Jacksonville development: Walmart.

That’s about to change.

Is Walmart coming to OakLeaf Plantation?

According to plans recently filed with city, the retail giant is planning a 176,360-square-foot supercenter store in a new development in the southwest corner of the First Coast Expressway-Oakleaf Plantation Parkway interchange.

How many Walmart stores are in Jacksonville?

The store would be the 15th supercenter-format Walmart store in Duval County.

Will the new OakLeaf Walmart store have a gas station?

In addition to the combination department-grocery store, Walmart is planning an attached 4,365-square-foot liquor store and a 1,358-square-foot gas station with 20 fueling stations in one of eight outparcels planned for the project.

What else is planned at the Walmart-anchored retail center?

The remaining outparcels, ranging in size from about 1 acre to 1.5 acres, are expected to include a car wash, general retail and restaurants, according to plans filed with JEA. None have been identified.

The entrance to the 63-acre retail center will be opposite Cecil Connector Road.

Bentonville, Arkansas-based Walmart is developing the project.
