WASHINGTON (KSEE/KGPE) – Two members of Congress from the Central Valley are both in support of the United States continuing to send aid to Ukraine and Israel.

It follows a push by House Speaker Mike Johnson to support a proposed aid package for Ukraine, Israel and other allied countries – a move which may risk a vote to oust him from his position.

On Tuesday, Fresno-area Representative Jim Costa thinks sending these funds to allies, particularly Ukraine, is important.

“The fact is, it’s been over five months of Ukrainian, brave Ukrainians fighting for their sovereignty and their democracy,” said Costa. “Clearly we have the ability to draw the line that Russia cannot invade, Russia is a hostile country.”

Costa says some of the funds in these support bills will also go toward helping people who have been displaced by Azeri forces in Armenia.

Also on Tuesday, Hanford-area Representative David Valadao said he too supports an effort to help allied nations.

“Ultimately, we’re running up against the clock here, especially with what happened over the weekend in Israel with the rocket attacks and everything else,” said Valadao. “I think the pressure is on for us to be there to help our ally, and I believe the votes will be there.”

Valadao adds that, once the text of the bills is released and lawmakers have a chance to read through it, he is confident they will pass the House and Senate and ultimately be signed into law by President Biden.
