Cosmopolis Entertainment Launches With Dane Cook’s ‘American Exit,’ Aims to Produce Slate of Indie Films

Cosmopolis Entertainment LLC is launching with Dane Cook’s drama “American Exit” with a goal of producing and fully financing modestly budgeted independent motion pictures.

Founder and President Ingo Vollkammer made the announcement Tuesday. He co-directed and co-wrote “American Exit” with Tim McCann.

Cook co-stars with Levi Miller (“Pan”). The production, which concluded principal photography on location in Los Angeles and Palm Springs last week, also features John Savage, Udo Kier (“Blade”) and Claire van der Boom (“Hawaii Five-O”).

Based on an true account, the fictionalized narrative centers on a dying California man’s attempt to make amends for his chief regrets in life, which brings him to reconnect with his estranged son on what unexpectedly comes to be a dangerous yet bonding journey.

Vollkammer, McCann, Jennifer Konawal, Ross Kohn and Nancy Leopardi developed the project. Cosmopolis Entertainment fully financed the film.

“I’ve long admired the Participant business model, with its focus on substantial stories of social change,” Vollkhammer said. “We gravitate as a company to dramatic, eclectic material that has international appeal. We will fully finance our projects and work with various distribution partners, but we do not require a distribution agreement in advance of greenlighting a project.”

Leslie LeGrand is the VP of Cosmoplis and Gary Price is the chief financial officer. The company will fully equity finance acquistions and original projects via its own resources and private European investment funds.

Cook’s upcoming projects include the Starz series “American Gods” where he will appear alongside Gillian Anderson and Ian McShane. He is currently on tour with the Oddball Comedy & Curiosity Festival, presented by Funny or Die, along with John Oliver and John Mulaney.

Vollkammer is represented by attorney Tom Rubin. McCann is represented by Jeffrey Belkin at Zero Gravity Management and Ira Schreck at Schreck, Rose, Dapello and Adams, LLP.
