Corrie fans can expect some highly emotional scenes over the next few episodes, as word reaches the Street that Gary Windass has been killed in an explosion on his latest trip to the Ukraine. The devastating news sparks a week of intense drama, with Sarah struggling to come to terms with what's happened, Anna hearing the news in prison, and David later making a shocking discovery.

When David spots Pat Phelan paying a secret visit to his daughter Nicola to keep her in the loop, he quickly puts two and two together and discovers that Nicola is expecting Gary's baby.

Of course, there's also a pretty big elephant in the room here, after a tabloid report leaked a potentially huge Corrie surprise – Gary might actually be back at some point. Is everything as it seems? Could there be a Christmas miracle? The only way to know for sure is to keep watching!

2. EastEnders: Max faces the consequences (Monday at 8pm on BBC One)

We're still only early days into EastEnders' new era with John Yorke back in charge of the soap, but there's already signs of a return to form. Friday's cliffhanger saw Max Branning reveal his true colours to the whole of Albert Square and an unmissable episode tonight sees everyone dealing with the consequences.

In a classic Queen Vic showdown, Max faces a furious backlash from Walford's residents, but continues to rub everyone's noses in it by proposing to Fi in public. Has he pushed his luck too far this time?

3. Emmerdale: Leyla confesses her feelings for David (Monday and Tuesday at 7pm on ITV)

You can't fault Emmerdale's Leyla Harding when it comes to her persistence. This week, she unexpectedly confesses her love for David Metcalfe, only to be left disappointed when he rejects her on the spot. Seemingly hoping to wear down his resolve, Leyla tries again the next day – and this time David's furious wife Tracy is in earshot.

Stunned by this betrayal from her so-called friend, Tracy gives Leyla a huge ultimatum about her future. We know that Leyla will be bowing out over the Christmas period as actress Roxy Shahidi is taking maternity leave – could this messy romance drama be what drives her out of the Dales for a while?

4. Hollyoaks: Darcy's secret is revealed (Wednesday at 7pm on E4 and Thursday at 6.30pm on Channel 4)

Hollyoaks' devious Darcy Wilde is usually an expert when it comes to talking her way out of trouble, but that could finally be about to change this week. When Darcy's love rival Maxine Minniver makes a welcome return to the village, it marks a change in fortunes for the schemer as her luck starts to run out.

In a spooky coincidence, a singles' night in the village leads to Maxine being matched with private investigator Jordan – the same man who's already made an attempt to blackmail Darcy. Jordan tells Maxine that Adam isn't the father of Darcy's young son Toby, but what will she do with the information?

5. Neighbours: Paige's son is kidnapped (Friday at 1.30pm and 6pm on Channel 5)

The bad news: there's only five more Neighbours episodes left this year before the show takes a four-week break. The good news: once the Aussie soap is back in January, it'll be airing all-year-round, meaning that we'll never have to cope with such a long gap again.

This means that this week's episodes feature Neighbours' last ever season finale, with some tantalising cliffhangers in the mix. Not only do we see Tyler confess to Hamish Roche's murder after realising he's the last remaining suspect in the case, there's also a worrying incident for Paige when her baby son Gabe gets snatched from his pram and driven off.

Is it a random incident, or does someone out there want to hurt Paige? All will be revealed in 2018!

6. Coronation Street: Luke wants answers over Andy's disappearance (Wednesday at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV)

Corrie's Luke may want to consider a new career as a detective if he ever gets fired from the garage. Not only has he rumbled Kate and Rana's affair in record time, he's also now on the case over Andy Carver's mysterious disappearance. (Okay, so that one took slightly longer…)

Luke smells a rat when he discovers that Andy never did move to Bristol, which is what everyone thought after he left the Street in January. When Pat Phelan gets wind of Luke's suspicions, he's forced to put a new masterplan into action to throw him off the scent – but should the Street's supervillain be worried?

7. EastEnders: Mick is lured to the dark side (Friday at 8pm on BBC One)

Faced with the possibility of losing his beloved Queen Vic, Mick is tempted to get involved in some criminal activity this week. The Square's new villain Aidan Maguire preys on Mick when he's vulnerable, hoping to get him involved with the dodgy job that he's already planning with Phil and Vincent.

With the Carters' future far from certain, Aidan's dark plan could solve Mick's financial woes for good. After a hellish year, is Mick fed up with playing Mr Nice Guy?

8. Emmerdale: Liv plays matchmaker for Aaron (Tuesday at 7pm on ITV)

With Rebecca gone from the village, it's left to Dr Alex Mason to take the baton when it comes to standing in the way of Robron's inevitable reunion. Aaron's little sister Liv is responsible for stirring things up, sending a text to Alex from Aaron's phone as she tries to play matchmaker.

Although Aaron doesn't welcome Liv's interference, he finally decides to give Alex a chance after his mum Chas also encourages him to move on. But how will Robert react when he spots Aaron and Alex kissing?

9. Hollyoaks: Lily's secret is exposed again (Tuesday at 7pm on E4 / Wednesday at 6.30pm on Channel 4)

After promising her family that she'd stop self-harming, Lily Drinkwell gets caught out for a second time in emotional scenes this week. Diane Hutchinson starts the week thinking her biggest concern is making sure bad boy Prince McQueen doesn't propose to her niece, but that's the least of her worries when the truth comes to light.

When Diane stumbles across the young couple's romantic proposal, it comes just as Prince spots blood on his troubled girlfriend's arm. As everyone realises that Lily never stopped self-harming at all, will she finally get the help she needs this time?
