Correctional officer killed in Fresno County crash identified. He ‘will be greatly missed’

A correctional officer killed in a crash April 18 has been identified by the Fresno County Coroner’s Office.

Reymundo Caldera, 43, of Selma died in the crash when his SUV was struck by a train at the railroad tracks at Golden State Boulevard and Stroud Avenue in Kingsburg.

Caldera was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

An investigation is underway whether the crossing arms were working.

Caldera worked at the Substance Abuse Treatment Facility and State Prison in Corcoran, according to officials.

Caldera began his career with the department as a cadet at the Richard A. McGee Correctional Training Center in February 2022.

He graduated from Basic Correctional Officer Academy before he reported to Corcoran in May 2022.

“Reymundo will be greatly missed by all who knew him and worked with him,” according to a statement issued by the institution.
