Coroner: Pontiac-area man killed in late night crash

A 59-year-old Dwight man died after a crash on Old Route 66 late Tuesday night, according to Livingston County Coroner Michael Renner.

Renner said his office was notified at 10:42 p.m. on May 7 of the crash on Old Route 66 between Illinois Route 47 and Morris Road, just inside Livingston County.

David E. Keeler was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:50 p.m. He died as a result of injuries from the crash.

Authorities said Keeler was riding a lawn mower in the southbound lane heading southwest on the bypass on Dwight’s northwest side.

Officials said Keeler's lawn mower was hit by a car from behind. The driver of the other vehicle did not see Keeler in time to stop and struck him and the mower.

The coroner’s report said there were no lights on the back of the mower.

Keeler and the mower were found in the ditch alongside the road.

No information on the other driver was available and there are no charges expected to be filed.

Illinois State Police is investigating the crash.
