Coroner: Driver died in Champaign County collision
May 20—CHAMPAIGN — One person is confirmed dead after a motor vehicle collision in Champaign on Wednesday.
The collision took place on County Road 900 East near 2400 North in Champaign County, Champaign County Coroner Steve Thuney said today.
The collision caused one of the vehicles to catch fire, and the driver of that vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.
The identity of the deceased driver is tentatively known but being withheld pending positive identification using DNA, and the coroner's office is working with the family.
This death is being investigated by the Champaign Coroner's Office and the Champaign County Sheriff's Office.
