Number of coronavirus recoveries hits 1 million mark worldwide
The number of coronavirus recoveries worldwide has topped one million.
According to figures published by Johns Hopkins University, the number of people who have recovered from the virus stood at 1,014,916 on Friday.
The highest number is in the United States, at 153,947, followed by Germany with 123,500 recoveries.
There are 112,050 recovered cases in Spain, according to the figures, and 78,523 in China.
The university puts UK recoveries at 859, which appears low compared to many other countries - including Ireland which it puts at more than 13,000 recoveries.
Some have suggested this is because many countries around the world, the UK included, cannot be sure exactly how many people have been infected in the first place due to a lack of testing, therefore make it hard to assess how many people have recovered from COVID-19.

According to official figures in Ireland, more than 9,000 people who tested positive for coronavirus have now recovered.
Statistics from the Department of Health on April 21 showed that 8,377 people had recovered in the community while 856 of those in hospital had also recovered.
The figures were based on an analysis of the confirmed cases when the overall total stood at 15,186 on Saturday.
At the time, chief medical officer Dr Tony Holohan said figures were broadly in line with recovery rates in other countries.
“It’s giving us a picture which is probably similar to what our understanding, our expectation, might have been,” he said.
In the UK, latest figures from the Department of Health and Social Care on Thursday (April 30) showed that 26,771 people had died in all settings with coronavirus - an increase of 674 on the number announced on Wednesday and the third highest death toll in the world behind the US and Italy.
The government does not release official figures for coronavirus recoveries.
