Here’s a recap of the global response to the coronavirus pandemic for Friday, May 8, 2020.

More than 3.9 million people have tested positive for the coronavirus worldwide, with more than 275,000 global deaths.

In the United States, a top aide for Vice President Mike Pence tested positive while the unemployment rate hit 14.7 percent, the highest it’s been since the Great Depression. More than 76,000 Americans have died.
