Coronavirus: U.S. death toll passes 70,000

Here’s a recap of the global response to the coronavirus pandemic for Wednesday, May 6, 2020.

More than 3.7 million people worldwide have tested positive for the coronavirus, according to data from Johns Hopkins University, and over 264,000 have died.

Japan plans to authorize the antiviral drug remdesivir to treat coronavirus patients on Thursday. This would make Japan the second country to approve the drug after the U.S.

In the United States, there have been over 1.2 million confirmed COVID-19 cases. More than 73,000 Americans have died.
