Coronavirus: Total confirmed cases near 2 million worldwide

Here’s a recap of the global response to the coronavirus pandemic for Tuesday, April 14, 2020.

Over 1.9 million people worldwide have tested positive for the coronavirus, according to data from Johns Hopkins University, and more than 126,000 people have died.

The United States has had over 609,000 confirmed COVID-19 cases and over 26,000 deaths, leading the world in both numbers. President Trump lashed out at New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo after Cuomo dismissed Trump's assertion that the president has "total" authority to reopen state economies. Meanwhile, in a report released on Tuesday, researchers warn that social distancing measures may be necessary through 2022.
